Use Habarana as a calm overnight base for Sigiriya, Dambulla, Minneriya, Kaudulla and Ritigala rather than rushing them all in one day.

Plan safaris for early morning or late afternoon, when temperatures are cooler and wildlife activity is usually better.

Check locally whether Hurulu, Minneriya or Kaudulla has better elephant movement during your travel dates, because sightings change with rainfall and water levels.

Carry sun protection, drinking water, insect repellent and a light scarf or dust mask for dry-zone roads and jeep tracks.

For lake or village experiences, wear comfortable footwear and ask before photographing local people, homes or working areas.

Wear a life jacket when provided on catamaran or canoe rides, and avoid lake activities during heavy rain, strong wind or poor visibility.
